Airport taxi vs parking: the real cost

When you compare an airport taxi vs parking, parking looks simple, but the total is usually more than the daily rate. You pay for every day the car is parked, prices tend to rise the later you book and in school holidays, and you also pay for fuel and wear on the car for the drive there and back. Some airports also charge to drop off or pick up outside the terminal. Prices vary a lot by airport and season, so check the airport's own site, for example Birmingham Airport, before you decide.

With an airport taxi you pay one fare, agreed before you travel, and it doesn't change with the number of days you are away.

Airport taxi vs parking: time and stress

Long-stay car parks are often a shuttle bus ride from the terminal, so you need to leave extra time on the way out and wait for a bus on the way back. Coming home after a long-haul flight, you then have to find the car, perhaps clear ice off the windscreen, and drive home tired, often late at night.

With a taxi you are dropped at the terminal door and met outside arrivals when you land. We track your flight, so if it is early or late the driver adjusts, and you can sleep on the way home.

When an airport taxi makes more sense

  • Longer trips: a fortnight's holiday means two weeks of parking, but the taxi fare stays the same.
  • Families and groups: one fare covers everyone, and our 8-seat Mercedes Vito takes up to 8 passengers and 8 large or up to 10 medium cases.
  • Early flights: no driving at 3am and no shuttle bus to wait for.
  • Long-haul returns: no driving home tired after a night flight.
  • Heathrow and Gatwick: these are two hours or more from Redditch, and that is a long drive at either end of a holiday.
  • Business travel: you can work or rest on the way, and we can set up a business account.

When parking might be better

To be fair, parking can work out cheaper for a solo traveller on a short trip of a day or two, especially to Birmingham Airport, which is only about 20 miles from Redditch. If you are happy to drive and have booked parking early, it may be the cheaper option for that kind of trip.

How to compare an airport taxi vs parking for your trip

Add up the parking for the days you are away, the fuel for both journeys and any drop-off or pick-up charges. Then ask us for a quote for the same trip. We confirm the price before you travel, so you can compare like for like and choose what suits you.
